Closes: #290867. -- Tor Slettnes Mon, 17 Jan 2005 16:11:45 -0800 greylistd (0.8) unstable; urgency=low * Modified templates, config, postinst, postrm scripts to add new "greylist" user and group for the greylistd process, rather than using the ownership of the MTA process. (The MTA user should be part of the "greylist" group). * Security fix: Set permission bits to 0600 when saving files, to prevent unauthorized users from peeking at greylist data. (All access should go via /var/run/greylistd/socket). * Fixed exception logging; was indented wrongly, thus repeated the error message several times in the log. * Handle stdout "broken pipe" exception in "greylist" client program (common when piping output through a pager like "most"). * Updated "greylistd-setup-exim4" to use try/except for runtime errors rather than doing a lot of "if" statements. * Beautified the "greylistd-setup-exim4" script and manual page a bit. -- Tor Slettnes Wed, 5 Jan 2005 23:33:03 -0800 greylistd (0.7) unstable; urgency=low * greylistd-update-exim4 is no longer invoked via DebConf - modifying conffiles (especially from another package) violates Debian Policy. Instead, a note about its availabilty is presented, putting the burden of actually running it on the local administrator. * Removed /etc/default/greylist; the UGID setting is now written to /etc/init.d/greylist (not a conffile) by DebConf. * /etc/greylistd/config is no longer configured via DebConf; it remains a conffile. * Made package description more novice-friendly. Closes: #287486. * Internal type-aware function to parse configuration/data files, rather than ConfigParser(), in order to save on memory during load/save ops. * Better handling of exceptions - unexpected runtime exceptions are logged (via syslog() or stderr). -- Tor Slettnes Wed, 29 Dec 2004 09:48:29 -0800 greylistd (0.6.6) unstable; urgency=low * Another critical, dumb bug: Would crash on first save if "triplets" file does not already exist. Closes: #286364. * Program would exit with socket error ('broken pipe') if the client connected before receiving reply. * Program died quietly on errors, because I had omitted a "raise" after cleanup in the exception handler. Fixed. -- Tor Slettnes Sat, 18 Dec 2004 23:49:25 -0800 greylistd (0.6.4) unstable; urgency=low * Fixed some spelling errors and unclear text in DebConf templates, control file, and manual pages. * "greylistd-setup-exim4" no longer prints error if "-no-fail" is given. (We don't care to see "Not configured" or "Not found" messages for each Exim 4 configuration file when we remove existing configuration prior to installing new one). * Option parsing in "greylistd-setup-exim4" is generalized/simplified. * "greylist" client crashed if an empty response was received from the daemon. -- Tor Slettnes Wed, 15 Dec 2004 17:03:40 -0800 greylistd (0.6.3) unstable; urgency=low * Fixed problem with statistics counter; would overcount the number of items that entered each list (white, grey). * Fixed unlimited growth of items in 'newTriplets' list in the case where these were not periodically flushed to file (i.e. when 'savetriplets = false') * Changed package description to reflect some more detail of how greylistd interacts with MTA. Closes: #285346. * Removed path names from the command synopsis line in the greylist(1) and greylistd(8) manual pages. Closes: #267225. * Format "list" output to include date of last hit and number of hits for each data set. Closes: #268059. * Greylist data is saved to temporary file, then renamed. This prevents a race condition where all data can be lost in case of a power failure or a full filesystem. Closes: #285343. (Data is saved periodically as of version 0.6). * Restructured runCommand() routine - it no longer walks through a large "if ... elif ... elif ... else" block, but tries to invoke a "do_" function according to the command specified. * Arguments to actions must now be prefixed with (any number of) hyphens. For instance, "greylist add --white", not "greylist add white". * Added "--white", "--grey", and "--black" options to the "check" and "update" commands; if specified, greylistd returns a boolean value rather than a list name. So "greylist --grey " would show whether is currently in a "grey" state. -- Tor Slettnes Wed, 15 Dec 2004 00:41:37 -0800 greylistd (0.6.2) unstable; urgency=low * Fixed dumb int/string bug just introduced - prevented triplet data from being loaded and crashed greylistd. -- Tor Slettnes Tue, 14 Dec 2004 19:03:35 -0800 greylistd (0.6.1) unstable; urgency=low * Eliminated some bashisms in maintainer scripts (per lintian). -- Tor Slettnes Tue, 14 Dec 2004 15:30:32 -0800 greylistd (0.6) unstable; urgency=low * Now uses DebConf for initial setup and configuration. * New utility "greylistd-setup-exim4" adds/removes support for greylistd in Exim 4 configuration files; optionally invoked via DebConf. * Tries to detect ownership of MTA process, and set greylistd ownership accordingly, to circumvent problems with users who cannot read. Closes: #267314. * 'whitelist-hosts' contains warning about lookup failures. Closes: #270814. * Default/documented Exim 4 examples do not greylist authenticated clients. Closes: #272572. * Depend on Python version 2.3 or newer; also, program checks that we are running a supported version. Closes: #267296. * Greylist data is now saved at regular intervals, as specified in the configuration file (default is 300 seconds). File saves can also be triggerd with the "save" command. Closes: #267316. * The original (unhashed) greylist data is now retained in a separate file; a "list" command gives access to it. * Clean up (remove UNIX domain socket....) after exceptions. * Init script supports 'reload' (saves greylist triplets). * "restart" command in init script sleeps for one second after killing old process, before starting new one. Also modified the data triplet that is passed to greylistd, so that it always includes the IP address, rather than the rDNS name, of the sending host. * Added a new file: examples/whitelist-hosts * Updated manual pages. -- Tor Slettnes Fri, 28 May 2004 12:49:36 -0700 greylistd (0.2-1) unstable; urgency=low * greylistd can now handle more than one connection at a time. * greylistd handles a -HUP signal and other exceptions more gracefully. * Corrected the error message "Unknown command" in 'greylist' to "Unknown action", as printed in the help output. * The path of the configuration file is now /etc/default/greylistd. It contains two new sections: [socket] and [data], listing the file path of the UNIX domain socket and the data hash file, respectively. * The default filemode of the socket is now 0660; this can be modified in the configuration file. * In the source archive, manual pages have been moved out from the "debian/" subdirectory into "doc/", as these are not Debian-specific. -- Tor Slettnes Wed, 26 May 2004 14:38:00 -0700 greylistd (0.1-1) unstable; You are using Exim 4 as your Mail Transport Agent (MTA). Great! . The "Debian-exim" user will be added to the "greylist" group, so that the Exim daemon process can talk to greylistd. However, for this change to take effect, the process must also be restarted. Template: greylistd/autoconfig_notdone_exim4 Type: note _Description: Exim 4 needs additional configuration For greylisting to become effective, your Mail Transport Agent (MTA) needs to talk to greylistd while receiving incoming mail; and depending on the response, issue a temporary rejection (451 SMTP code) to the remote host. . Since you are using Exim 4 as your MTA, a script is available for you to perform this task. At a root prompt, type: # greylistd-setup-exim4 add If you overwrite your Exim configuration files in the future (for instance, when upgrading Exim), you may need to re-run this command. . Later, before you uninstall "greylistd", you want to run: # greylistd-setup-exim4 remove . For more options and help on usage, run the command without any arguments, or see the "greylistd-setup-exim4(8)" manual page. One suggested option for the "add" command is "-netmask=24". . The reason this operation is not performed automatically is that Exim's configuration files are tagged as "conffiles", so per Debian Policy they are completely under your control. Only you can change them. . If you prefer to configure Exim 4 for greylistd by hand, please see /usr/share/doc/greylistd/README.Debian. Template: greylistd/autoconfig_notdone Type: note _Description: Your MTA needs additional configuration For greylisting to become effective, two things must happen: - Your Mail Transport Agent (MTA) needs to talk to greylistd while receiving incoming mail, and depending on the response, issue a temporary rejection (451 SMTP response) to the remote host. - The account under which your MTA runs needs to be added to the "greylist" group. After this, your MTA needs to be restarted. . Unfortunately, this package supports only Debian's default Exim 4 configuration. Since you seem to be using a different MTA, have a look at the greylistd(8) manual page for some information on communicating with greylistd. . There may also be other greylisting solutions available that suit your MTA better; see the "Links" section at: http://projects.puremagic.com/greylisting/ greylistd-0.8.8/debian/config0000755000000000000000000000160010215412330013024 0ustar #!/bin/sh -e # Config module for greylistd. . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule db_version 2.0 owner=greylistd action="$1" priorversion="$2" true=0 false=1 running_exim4() { test -x /usr/sbin/exim4 -a -d /etc/exim4 } ismember() { user=$1 group=$2 for candidate in $(id -Gn $user 2>/dev/null) do [ "$candidate" = "$group" ] && return $true done return $false } config_restartexim() { if running_exim4 && ! ismember Debian-exim greylist then db_input low "$owner/restartexim" && db_go fi return 0 } config_autoconfig_notdone() { if running_exim4 then question="$owner/autoconfig_notdone_exim4" else question="$owner/autoconfig_notdone" fi db_input high "$question" && db_go return 0 } config_restartexim config_autoconfig_notdone #DEBHELPER# db_stop exit 0 greylistd-0.8.8/debian/examples0000644000000000000000000000010110157552575013412 0ustar doc/examples/exim4-acl-example.txt doc/examples/whitelist-hosts greylistd-0.8.8/debian/pyversions0000644000000000000000000000000510473567541014020 0ustar 2.3- greylistd-0.8.8/debian/substvars0000644000000000000000000000005410473563534013635 0ustar misc:Depends=debconf (>= 0.5) | debconf-2.0 greylistd-0.8.8/debian/pycompat0000644000000000000000000000000210473566125013425 0ustar 2 greylistd-0.8.8/debian/rules0000755000000000000000000000214111677115075012735 0ustar #!/usr/bin/make -f # -*- makefile -*- # Sample debian/rules that uses debhelper. # GNU copyright 1997 to 1999 by Joey Hess. # Uncomment this to turn on verbose mode. #export DH_VERBOSE=1 package=greylistd tmp=$(CURDIR)/debian/greylistd configure: configure-stamp configure-stamp: dh_testdir touch configure-stamp build: build-arch build-indep build-arch: build-stamp build-indep: build-stamp build-stamp: configure-stamp dh_testdir touch build-stamp clean: dh_testdir dh_testroot rm -f build-stamp configure-stamp dh_clean install: build dh_testdir dh_testroot dh_clean -k dh_installdirs # Build architecture-independent files here. binary-indep: build install dh_testdir dh_testroot dh_installchangelogs dh_installdocs dh_installexamples dh_install dh_installdebconf dh_installinit -d dh_installman dh_compress dh_fixperms dh_pysupport dh_installdeb dh_shlibdeps dh_gencontrol dh_md5sums dh_builddeb # Build architecture-dependent files here. binary-arch: build install binary: binary-indep binary-arch .PHONY: build clean binary-indep binary-arch binary install configure greylistd-0.8.8/debian/po/0000755000000000000000000000000011677156310012272 5ustar greylistd-0.8.8/debian/po/fr.po0000644000000000000000000001631011677155663013254 0ustar # translation of fr.po to # translation of fr.po to # # Translators, if you are not familiar with the PO format, gettext # documentation is worth reading, especially sections dedicated to # this format, e.g. by running: # info -n '(gettext)PO Files' # info -n '(gettext)Header Entry' # Some information specific to po-debconf are available at # /usr/share/doc/po-debconf/README-trans # or http://www.debian.org/intl/l10n/po-debconf/README-trans# # Developers do not need to manually edit POT or PO files. # , 2005. # , 2005. # msgid "" msgstr "" "Project-Id-Version: greylistd 0.8.1\n" "Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: \n" "POT-Creation-Date: 2011-12-29 22:29+0100\n" "PO-Revision-Date: 2005-01-20 17:54+0100\n" "Last-Translator: Jean-Luc Coulon (f5ibh) \n" "Language-Team: French \n" "Language: fr\n" "MIME-Version: 1.0\n" "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-15\n" "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n" "X-Generator: KBabel 1.9.1\n" #. This means that the account that owns your MTA process needs to be a member of the "greylist" group. If Exim 4 was installed when you last installed/upgraded greylistd, this should have been confiured already. If not, you can run the following command as the "root" user: # adduser Debian-exim greylist If you built Exim 4 from sources, or if you use a different MTA, add the appropriate username to this group the same way. - Then, your MTA needs to be configured to talk to greylistd during n incoming SMTP transactions. If you are using Exim 4 (with the configuration supplied in Debian's "exim4-config" package), you can add this support by simply running: # greylistd-setup-exim4 add Alternatively, you can run: # greylistd-setup-exim4 add -netmask=24 The -netmask=24 option is used to group the IP addresses of the sender hosts into 24-bit networks, so that pools of several Mail Sending Agents (MSAs) within a given network are treated as a single host. This will modify the following files (if present): /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/30_exim4-config_check_rcpt /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/40_exim4-config_check_data Two statements are then inserted into Exim's Access Control Lists (ACLs): * One in the "acl_check_rcpt" ACL, for regular mail. * One in the "acl_check_data" ACL, for bounces (mail with no envelope sender). - If your ACL configration is different from that supplied with Debian (i.e. if you use different ACL names and/or file locations), you can run the command: # greylistd-setup-exim4 add (For help on syntax, run this command without any arguments.) - If you prefer to edit your Exim 4 configuration files by hand, look in /usr/share/doc/greylistd/examples/exim4-acl-example.txt for an idea. - Whenever these configuration files change in Debian's "exim4-config" package, you will be asked if you want to replace your existing configuration with new versions. If you do so, you will need to re-run the "greylistd-setup-exim4" command as described above (or re-apply any manual changes) for greylisting to remain in effect. - REMEMBER! Before you remove the "greylistd" package, remove any "greylistd" statements you have inserted into the Exim configuration files. If you use Debian's default Exim 4 configuration, run: # greylistd-setup-exim4 remove Else, run: # greylistd-setup-exim4 remove - If you use a different MTA, you may need to do some research into how you can defer incoming mail deliveries based on either of the following: * A dialogue over a UNIX domain socket (/var/run/greylistd/socket), or * An exit code or string returned from an external program ("greylist"). Looking at the greylistd source (/usr/sbin/greylistd) may be helpful. If you come up with something, or have questions, please let me know! - Feel free to edit /etc/greylistd/whitelist-hosts according to your needs. This file contains hosts from which greylisting will not be performed, at least per the default Exim 4 greylistd ACL statement. Typically, this would be: * Hosts from which you receive relayed messages, such as mailing list servers or your own backup MX hosts * "well-behaved" hosts (depending on your perspective) from which you find that greylisting is ineffective A separate whitelist exists in /var/lib/greylistd/whitelist-hosts; this is a copy of Evan Harris' list of some "ill-behaved", but legitimate hosts (such as groups.yahoo.com) that are known to have problems sending to servers that respond with temporary failures (as in the case of greylisting). - Read the manuals! They contain everything you want to know. "man greylistd" and "man greylist". If you have any questions, feel free to send me an e-mail (but, ahem, you may have to wait at least an hour or so for me to see it and respond to it... :-) Good Luck! If a list is specified, the word "true" or "false" is printed, indicating whether the data was in the corresponding list; the exit status is also set accordingly. Otherwise, one of the words "white", "grey", and "black" is written on standard output, and the exit status is 0, 1, or 2, respectively. NOTE: This operation is non-intrusive, and thus does not update any of the greylist data. So, for instance, if the \fIdata\fP is currently in the "grey" list, but its minimum retry time (\fBretryMin\fP) has elapsed, the text "white" would be printed. However, unless an \fBupdate\fP takes place prior to the \fBretryMax\fP timeout, the \fIdata\fP would still expire from the "grey" list. .IP "\fBupdate\fP [\fB--white\fP|\fB--grey\fP|\fB--black\fP] \fIdata...\fP" Same, but also update the greylist data accordingly. So if \fIdata\fP is currently greylisted, but the minimum retry time \fBretryMin\fP has elapsed since it was first seen, \fIdata\fP is moved to the "white" list. This operation would normally be used by mail transport agents (MTAs). .IP "\fBstats\fP" Print some statistics on greylist utilization and hits. .IP "\fBmrtg\fP" Print statistics on greylist and whitelist hits in a format that MRTG can use as an External Monitoring Script. .IP "\fBlist\fP [\fB--white\fP] [\fB--grey\fP] [\fB--black\fP]" Print available (original/unhashed) data items from the corresponding list(s). NOTE: Internally, \fBgreylistd\fP(8) hashes the provided data into a single 32-bit value for efficiency. Prior to version 0.6, the original data was not retained; as of version 0.6, data is saved if the "savetriplets" setting in the [data] section of the configuration file is "true". Only data items (i.e. triplets) that have been seen while this setting were enabled can be listed. .IP "\fBsave\fP" Force greylist data to be immediately saved (synchronized) to the filesystem. Data is also saved after any operation if a certain \fIupdate interval\fP (default is 300 seconds/5 minutes) has elapsed since the last save, and there are no pending requests to \fBgreylistd\fP(8). .IP "\fBreload\fP" Save greylist data to files, then reload configuration and data. .IP "\fBclear\fP [\fB--white\fP] [\fB--grey\fP] [\fB--black\fP]" Clear all items in the specified list(s), or all lists if none is specified. If the whitelist is cleared, \fIall\fP new data trilplets will initially be in a "grey" state. Use with caution! .SH "EXAMPLES" .IP "greylist add --white 1.2.3.4 mailinglist@somewhere subscriber@yourhost" Whitelists messages received from the IP address 1.2.3.4 on behalf of to . .IP "greylist check --grey 1.2.3.4 mailinglist@somewhere subscriber@yourhost" Prints "true" or "false" on standard output, depending on whether mail received from the IP address 1.2.3.4 on behalf of to should be deferred or not, respectively. For a more elaborate introduction to greylisting, please refer to Evan Harris' whitepaper at: http://projects.puremagic.com/greylisting/ Greylisting is a simple but highly effective means to weed out messages that are being delivered via spamware/ratware tools. The idea is to establish whether a prior relationship exists between the sender and the receiver of a message. Most of the time it does, and the delivery proceeds normally. On the other hand, if no prior relationship exists, the delivery is temporarily rejected, using a 451 SMTP response. Legitimate MTAs will treat this response accordingly, and retry the delivery in a while. In contrast, ratware will usually fail to retry the delivery in a normal fashion. As a result, greylisting is currently more than 90% effective in blocking incoming junk mail, while nearly all legitimate mail goes through. Three pieces of information (herafter called a \fItriplet\fP) from the delivery attempt are cached for future reference: - The address of the host attempting the delivery - The envelope sender address (MAIL FROM:) - The envelope recipient address (RCPT TO:) If a delivery attempt was temporarily rejected, then after an initial timeout (60 minutes by default), but before a retry expiration time (8 hours by default), new delivery attempts with the same \fItriplet\fP are accepted, and the \fItriplet\fP is added to a whitelist. This allows for delivery retries, presumably from legitimate MTAs, and ensures that future mail from the same contact is not subject to greylisting. If a whitelisted \fItriplet\fP has not been seen for an extended duration (by default 60 days), it is expired. This prevents unlimited growth of the list. The downside to greylisting is that legitimate mail from people who have never sent you mail in the past (or, at least, within the last 60 days) are subject to a one-hour delay. The upside is that the current generation of ratware tools will not be able to deliver spam or virii to you. Even if, as a result of lots of sites incorporating the greylisting concept, ratware tools are modified such that temporarily rejected deliveries are retried, you stand an increased chance of blocking such mail. That is because within the mandatory 1-hour initial delay, chances are that the sending host's IP address has been listed in one or more DNS block lists (such as bl.spamcop.net, cbl.abuseat.org, etc..), and can be rejected by your MTA by consulting these lists directly, or via anti-spam software like SpamAssassin. .SS "greylistd" \fBgreylistd\fP is meant to be installed on a server that accepts incoming mail. The MTA on this server connects to the greylistd daemon over a UNIX domain socket (by default \fI/var/run/greylistd/socket\fP), or alternatively via the command \fBgreylist\fP(1), and submits a string (\fItriplet\fP) that identifies a particular host/sender/recipient relationship. \fBgreylistd\fP responds "white", "grey" or "black", depending on the current listing status of the provided \fItriplet\fP. Alternatively, if either of the "--white", "--grey", or "--black" options precede the data, \fBgreylistd\fP responds "true" or "false", indicating whether the triplet is currently in the corresponding state. .SH "EXAMPLES" .SS "Exim 4" A sample greylistd statement for Exim 4 is provided with this package, and can normally be found in "/usr/share/doc/greylistd/examples/exim4-acl-example.txt". .SS "Others" What others? :-) A prerequisite to greylisting in general is the ability to perform custom filtering throughout the various stages in the SMTP transaction, most notably after the \fBRCPT TO:\fP SMTP command. In particular, \fBgreylistd\fP(8) can be invoked either over a UNIX domain socket or via the supplied \fBgreylist\fP(1) utility. Although \fBgreylistd\fP(8) is written mainly with Exim in mind, it should be possible to use it with any MTA that: .IP " -" Allows arbitrary strings to be passed on via a UNIX domain socket (\fB/var/run/greylistd/socket\fP) or supplied to external programs (\fBgreylist\fP(1)). .IP " -" Can defer the incoming delivery, based on the response. .PP Some MTAs either have limited or no support for such external filters in the SMTP transaction (e.g. Sendmail), or define a very custom interface for such filters (e.g. Postifx "Policy Servers"). That said, solutions exist for these other MTAs as well. For Postfix, check into "postgrey", and for Sendmail there is "relaydelay". For other MTAs, check the links on Evan Harris' greylisting project page: http://projects.puremagic.com/greylisting/links.html .SH "FILES" .SS "/etc/greylistd/config" Configuration settings. Currently, this file consists of three sections: .IP "[timeout]" 4 Lists various timeouts used to determine how long to keep a new \fItriplet\fP greylisted, and when to expire previosly known \fItriplet\fPs. .IP "[socket]" 4 Specifies path and permissions of the UNIX domain socket on which \fBgreylistd\fP will listen. .IP "[data]" 4 Specifies the paths to the data files, containing the data items and statistics, as well as an \fIupdate interval\fP specifying how often data will be written to these files. .SS "/var/lib/greylistd/states" (default path, can be modified in the configuration file) Runtime data. Theare are four sections: .BR "[white]" ", " "[grey]" ", " "[black]" " and " "[statistics]" ". " The first three sections consist of lines of the form: \fIhash\fP = \fIlastseen firstseen count\fP where: .IP " -" 4 \fIhash\fP is a 32-bit value representing a given \fItriplet\fP, .IP " -" 4 \fIlastseen\fP is a 32-bit value representing the timestamp of last delivery attempt for this triplet, .IP " -" 4 \fIfirstseen\fP is a 32-bit value representing the timestamp of first known delivery attempt for this triplet, .IP " -" 4 \fIcount\fP is a 32-bit value representing the number of delivery attempts that have been made for this triplet in this time period. .PP The \fB[statistics]\fP section contains a counter for each of the three lists, indicating how many items that has ever made its way into these lists by way of the \fBupdate\fP protocol. .SS "/var/lib/greylistd/triplets" (default path, can be modified in the configuration file) Unhashed data - i.e. the original triplets passed to greylistd. Internally, \fBgreylistd\fP(8) hashes the provided data into a single 32-bit value for efficiency. Prior to version 0.6, the original data was not retained; as of version 0.6, data is optionally saved into this file. Data items are saved in the form: \fIhash\fP = \fIdata\fP ... .SS "/var/run/greylistd/socket" (default path, can be modified in the configuration file) The UNIX domain socket providing the main interface to "greylistd". The MTA can either connect to this socket directly, or use the supplied "greylist" utility to do so. .SH "BUGS" Because \fItriplet\fPs and timestamps are hashed into simple 32-bit values, there is a very slim chance that deliveries that should have been greylisted are allowed through. More so for very busy sites. Commands are actually executed in the daemon, not the "greylist" client. If the user who invokes "greylist" interactively has a different time zone than the daemon process, time and date representations in the output will reflect those of the daemon. .SH "AUTHOR" This python script and manual page is written by Tor Slettnes, originally for Debian GNU/Linux. .SH "COPYRIGHT" Copyright \(co 2004-2005 Tor Slettnes. A zero exit status indicates that the statement(s) exist(s). .PP The following options are available: .IP "\fB-quiet\fP" Normally, the result of the operation is printed on standard error; this option inhibits output. .IP "\fB-no-fail\fP" Always exit with a zero status, even on failure. If this option is given, only the result of successful operations are printed. .IP "\fB-no-reload\fP" Normally, if any changes were made to the Exim 4 configuration files, \fBgreylistd-setup-exim4\fP invokes the Exim 4 init script, telling Exim to reload its configuration files. This option inhibits this behavior. .IP "\fB-netmask=\fP\fIsize\fP" In the statement that is inserted in the Exim 4 configuration file, the remote host address is one of the items that is passed on to greylistd. This option causes the host address to be filtered through a netmask of the given size first. Useful values are between 16 and 31 for IPv4. .IP "\fB-acltype=\fP{\fBrcpt\fP|\fBdata\fP}" Used in conjunction with the \fBadd\fP command to insert a statement suitable for use in an ACL used to validate the SMTP \fBRCPT TO:\fP command or the message \fBDATA\fP, respectively. This is implicit when the supplied ACL name contains either of the substrings "\fBrcpt\fP" or "\fBdata\fP" (such as Debian's default "\fBacl_check_rcpt\fP" and "\fBacl_check_data\fP" ACLs). Otherwise, this option has to be present for the \fBadd\fP command. .PP .SH "EXAMPLES" .IP "\fBgreylistd-setup-exim4 add -netmask=24\fP" Adds greylistd statements to any \fBacl_check_rcpt\fP and \fBacl_check_data\fP ACLs found in any of the following files: - /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template - /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/30_exim4-config_check_rcpt - /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/40_exim4-config_check_data In these statements, the data passed to greylistd includes the host address filtered through a 24-bit netmask, rather than the host's unique IP address. This allows for pools of several Mail Sending Agents (MSAs) within a given network to be treated as a single host. If successful, Exim 4 is told to reload its configuration files. If a statement already exists, nothing happens - but the program exits unsuccessfully (non-zero return code). .IP "\fBgreylistd-setup-exim4 remove -quiet\fP" Remove greylisting support from the above configuration files and ACLs. If greylistd statements exist in these files and ACLs, they are removed, and Exim 4 will reload its configuration files. The exit code indicates whether the statements were present and are now successfully removed; but no results are printed. .IP "\fBgreylistd-setup-exim4 add /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template acl_check_rcpt -no-reload\fP" If no greylistd statements already exists in the \fBacl_check_rcpt\fP ACL in the file \fB/etc/exim4/exim4.conf.template\fP, one is inserted. In this case, the Exim 4 daemon is then NOT told to reload its configuration files. .SH "BUGS" The statement that is inserted by this utility presumes that the Exim 4 configuration comes from Debian's "\fBexim4-config\fP" package. Specifically, it makes use of the \fB+relay_from_hosts\fP host list, the \fB+local_domains\fP and \fB+relay_to_domains\fP domain lists, and the \fBacl_local_deny_exceptions\fP ACL. A more generalized approach is on my, ahem, to-do list. .SH "AUTHOR" This python script and manual page is written by Tor Slettnes, originally for Debian GNU/Linux. .SH "COPYRIGHT" Copyright \(co 2004-2005 Tor Slettnes. Some problems have # been reported for sites like MSN/Hotmail, Prodigy, and various other # senders that appear to be having "weird" retry patterns (sometimes # resulting in bounces) when using code 450 or others. # Because error code 450 is most commonly used for a mailbox lock failure, # many sites seem to treat it as a very short duration failure, and will # retry several times within seconds, and then bounce the mail, while they # handle a code 451 more "normally". # Here's an example command to use in a mysql shell to insert # a whitelist entry (assumes defaults from dbdef.sql): # INSERT INTO relaytofrom (relay_ip, record_expires, create_time) # VALUES ('127.0.0.1', '9999-12-31 23:59:59', NOW()); # Example valid values: # 10.0.0.0/8 # 10.0.0.0/24 # 10.0.0.0/29 # 10.0.0.5 # and NOT valid: # 10.0.0.5/32 127.0.0.1 # Of course we don't want to delay ourselves or local users 192.168.0.0/16 # Don't delay our private networks either 10.0.0.0/8 # Private net (class A) 172.16.0.0/12 # Another private net # Public Servers 12.5.136.141 # Southwest Airlines (unique sender, no retry) 12.5.136.142 # Southwest Airlines (unique sender, no retry) 12.107.209.244 # kernel.org mailing lists (high traffic, unique sender per mail) 12.107.209.250 # sourceware.org mailing lists (high traffic, unique sender per mail) 63.82.37.110 # SLmail 64.7.153.18 # sentex.ca (common pool) 64.12.137.0/24 # AOL (common pool) - http://postmaster.aol.com/servers/imo.html 64.12.138.0/24 # AOL (common pool) 64.124.204.39 # moveon.org (unique sender per attempt) 64.125.132.254 # collab.net (unique sender per attempt) #64.233.170 # gmail (common server pool) #65.82.241.160 # Groupwise? #66.94.237 # Yahoo Groups? 66.100.210.82 # Groupwise? 66.135.209.0/24 # Ebay (for time critical alerts) 66.135.197.0/24 # Ebay (common pool) 66.162.216.166 # Groupwise? 66.206.22.82 # PLEXOR 66.206.22.83 # PLEXOR 66.206.22.84 # PLEXOR 66.206.22.85 # PLEXOR 66.218.66.0/24 # Yahoo Groups servers (common pool, no retry) 66.218.67.0/24 # Yahoo Groups servers (common pool, no retry) 66.218.69.0/24 # Yahoo Groups servers (common pool, no retry) 66.27.51.218 # ljbtc.com (Groupwise) #66.89.73.101 # Groupwise? #68.15.115.88 # Groupwise? 152.163.225.0/24 # AOL (common pool) 194.245.101.88 # Joker.com (email forwarding server) 195.235.39.19 # Tid InfoMail Exchanger v2.20 195.238.2.105 # skynet.be (wierd retry pattern) 195.238.2.124 # skynet.be (common pool) 195.238.3.12 # skynet.be (common pool) 195.238.3.13 # skynet.be (common pool) #204.60.8.162 # Groupwise? 204.107.120.10 # Ameritrade (no retry) 205.188.139.136 # AOL (common pool) 205.188.139.137 # AOL (common pool) 205.188.144.207 # AOL (common pool) 205.188.144.208 # AOL (common pool) 205.188.156.66 # AOL (common pool) 205.188.157.0/24 # AOL (common pool) 205.188.159.7 # AOL (common pool) 205.206.231.0/24 # SecurityFocus.com (unique sender per attempt) 205.211.164.50 # sentex.ca (common pool) 207.115.63.0/24 # Prodigy (broken software that retries continually with no delay) 207.171.168.0/24 # Amazon.com (common pool) 207.171.180.0/24 # Amazon.com (common pool) 207.171.187.0/24 # Amazon.com (common pool) 207.171.188.0/24 # Amazon.com (common pool) 207.171.190.0/24 # Amazon.com (common pool) 211.29.132.0/24 # optusnet.com.au (wierd retry pattern and more than 48hrs) 213.136.52.31 # Mysql.com (unique sender) #216.136.226.0 # Yahoo Mail? #216.157.204.5 # Groupwise? 217.158.50.178 # AXKit mailing list (unique sender per attempt) greylistd-0.8.8/config/config0000644000000000000000000000411610565302356013067 0ustar ######################################################################## ### FILE: /etc/greylistd/config ### PURPOSE: Configuration settings for the "greylistd(8)" daemon ######################################################################## [timeouts] # Initial delay before previously unknown triplets are allowed to pass # Default is 10 minutes = 600 seconds retryMin = 600 # Lifetime of triplets that have not been retried after initial delay # Default is 8 hours = 28800 seconds retryMax = 28800 # Lifetime of auto-whitelisted triplets that have allowed mail to pass # Default is 60 days = 5,184,000 seconds expire = 5184000 [socket] # Path to the UNIX domain socket on which greylistd will listen. # The parent directory must be writable by the user running 'greylistd'. # Default path is "/var/run/greylistd/socket". path = /var/run/greylistd/socket # UNIX filemode of that socket.
